Here you can change
the Settings related to your GPS device. The Mobile Golf Scorer™ supports
all GPS devices supporting the NMEA and Sirf Standards, which are the industry
standards for GPS devices. At
the Top, use the Port and Speed Combo Boxed to select the
Port and Speed of your GPS Device. Most GPS devices work at 4800
Baud. If you are using Windows Mobile 5 and your device has the
new GPS Intermediate Driver you can select Shared as Port to use this
feature. If you select Settings in the Port Combo Box, you can access
advanced GPS Port Settings. In
order to connect to the device, tap on Connect. Once connected,
you can tap on the same button, which then reads Disconnect, to
disconnect from the device. When
connected you can see various GPS related settings on the Screen:
- Right next to the
Disconnect button you can see the Type of GPS Fix (the way
the GPS computed the Position) available (2D, 3D, DIF). On the right
you can see the dilution of precision of the GPS Position.
- Below, you can see
the Latitude of the current Position in Degrees, Minutes and
Seconds. Right of the Latitude you can see the horizontal
dilution of Precision.
- Further below, you
can see the Longitude of the current Position in Degrees,
Minutes and Seconds. Right of the Longitude you can see the vertical
dilution of Precision.
- Further below, you
can see the Altitude of the current Position in the selected
Unit. Right
of the Altitude you can see the speed at which you move.
- Next, you can see
how many (second number) Satellites the GPS device sees and
how man of them are in use (first number) to computer the GPS
Position. Right of the numbers, you can see the Date and Time as
received form the GPS Device.
- In the Graphic,
there is one Bar for each Satellite. The higher the Bar is, the
better the quality of the signal from this Satellite. If the Bar is
pained filled, the Satellite is used to compute the GPS Coordinates.
Below the bar you can see the number of the Satellite. Using the
Buttons
and
you can show and hide this Graphic.
- Below the Graphic,
you can see the Movement that you made during the last 5, 10
and 30 Seconds. If you stand still you can use this value to judge
the Quality of the GPS Coordinates (if your Movement is below 1
Meter or Yard and you stand still, the Quality can be considered as good).
- Using the Buttons
and
you can show and hide a Graphic showing the last measured GPS
Positions. The Position measured last is in the Middle, the
Positions measured before around the Middle according to their
position relative to the last measured Position. The older a
Measurement is, the lighter the Color gets. The Scale of the Graphic
is shown next to it.
- Below the movements you see a colored
horizontal Bar. This Bar shows you how many of the last reported
GPS Positions have been moves away from or towards the last recorded position.
Many GPS devices are slow in reporting new Positions and so it is
advisable to stand still for some time before you record a Position.
It is ideal if the two Parts of the Bar have approximately the same
length as this shows that the position the GPS device reported is
more or less stable.
- When
connected you
can use the Opt button at the bottom left to access the advanced
GPS Options
- At the Bottom you
can use the From and To buttons to measure Distances.
Move to any place, tap on From and start to Move. You will
see the distance between the Point you tapped on From at to your
actual standpoint. After moving to
another Position tap on To to see the distance between these
two Positions. This is another way to see the Quality of the GPS
Coordinates.
To select a different Setting, tap on the corresponding Tab on the Top of the Screen.
To apply the GPS Settings, tap on Apply. To leave the Settings
applying the new GPS Settings, tap on OK. To leave and Cancel the
changes, tap on Cancel.
